The game of Chess consists of thirty-two pieces: 16 White and 16 Black. Chess battle is on two sides of the square board. The game appears simple to beginners, but it involves your mind and strategies for protection of king and other elements.

16 Chessman for each player includes the following elements. The role of each element is illustrated below:

1 King: It moves only one square in any direction at a time. It is the most important piece on chess board and the game gets over if the king is captured by the opponent.

1 Queen: A queen is the most powerful piece and can move in any direction for any number of chess squares. It can capture any element from any point.

2 Rooks: Rooks can move by file or ranking for any number of squares. These are placed on the corners and can alter spaces and attack opponent.

2 Knights: Knight can move two squares horizontally or vertically and take one square to any side. It is a unique piece and fits many functions.

2 Bishops: Bishops are diagonal movers and limited to one color. It can move to any number of diagonal squares.

8 Pawns: Pawn moves a single square at a time and can go only forward. It can move one step diagonally, if it has to capture any chess piece on the particular location. Pawn can be exchanged for any other chess piece on reaching the end of the board. It can take two straight steps on opening move.

Two rooks are placed on lower corners of the squares and followed by knights and bishops. Queen is placed matching its color; meaning White Queen will be placed on White Square and same is the case with Black Queen. Pawns are placed on second row of the court of the King.

The intellectual power of a player is revealed with the game of chess. The major objective is to keep the king safe and the player is bound to utilize each piece of chess to its maximum level.
